The OVSS determines scholarship eligibility by a dancer's participation in performance events. A dancer must participate in at least one performance opportunities in a given year.
The amount of scholarship money a performer receives is based on their level of participation. The more events a dancer participates in, the more scholarship money he or she receives. This is intended to promote participation and eliminate subjectivity.
Scholarship funds can only be used to pay for workshops outside of a student's usual classroom instruction. This is to promote diversification of instruction.
Over the last 22 years, the OVSS has handed out more than $20,000 in scholarships over over 60 recipients and counting!
